COVER ME

TITLE: COVER ME
ARTIST: THE NAZARENE
STYLE: Cool blue-ray Gospel rap, living-water flow, atonement explained, clear rap, soft choir echoes
[INTRO]
Why do we need atonement?
Because sin does not disappear
because we ignore it.
Guilt does not wash itself.
Wrong does not delete itself.
Shame does not heal itself.
Without covering,
we keep what we carry.
But God made a way.
[VERSE 1]
Sin is not just a bad little mood,
not just “oops” when we act rude.
Sin breaks love, sin bends trust,
turns clean hearts into hidden dust.
You can scroll past it, swipe it away,
but guilt still waits at the end of the day.
You can laugh loud, make your face look bright,
but conscience whispers in the quiet night.
Gen Alpha, hear this clean and plain,
we need more than a filtered frame.
You cannot edit the soul with a screen,
only God can make the inside clean.
That’s why atonement matters deep,
God does not pretend while sinners sleep.
Mercy is not “wrong was fine,”
mercy is justice with holy design.
If there is no covering, guilt remains,
like old marks under digital names.
But God gave signs through blood and flame,
all pointing forward to Jesus’ Name.
[HOOK]
Cover me, wash me clean,
Lamb of God, step into my scene.
Mercy flows like a river wide,
Jesus took what I could not hide.
Cover me, make me new,
blood of the Lamb makes the promise true.
Sin carried off, guilt washed away,
Jesus opened the holy way.
[VERSE 2]
Back in Egypt, midnight near,
families waited with holy fear.
Passover lamb, blood on the door,
death passed over and touched no more.
It was not magic paint on wood,
it was faith in the word of God.
The lamb died so the firstborn lived,
rescue came through the blood God gives.
Then in the temple, day by day,
sacrifices showed the way.
Sin was serious, God was holy,
yet God made room for the broken and lowly.
Blood meant life laid down in place,
substitute standing in mercy’s space.
Not because God loves pain or death,
but because sin costs life and breath.
Day of Atonement, solemn and still,
priest came near by God’s own will.
Sin confessed, guilt carried away,
God was preaching Christ before the day.
[CHOIR COUNTER]
Cover me.
Wash me clean.
Lamb of God.
Mercy stream.
[HOOK]
Cover me, wash me clean,
Lamb of God, step into my scene.
Mercy flows like a river wide,
Jesus took what I could not hide.
Cover me, make me new,
blood of the Lamb makes the promise true.
Sin carried off, guilt washed away,
Jesus opened the holy way.
[VERSE 3]
Without blood covering, sin stays yours,
locked behind unseen doors.
You can rename it, hide it, dress it,
but only God can cleanse and bless it.
That sounds heavy, but hear the grace,
God did not leave us in that place.
Every lamb, every altar sign,
was Heaven drawing a saving line.
Isaiah saw the Servant torn,
carrying grief the world had worn.
Like a lamb led to slaughter’s road,
He bore the sinner’s crushing load.
Then John by Jordan raised his hand,
saw Jesus walking across the sand.
“Behold the Lamb of God,” he cried,
“who takes the sin of the world outside.”
Not just a teacher, not just a guide,
not just kind words with arms spread wide.
Jesus came as sacrifice,
holy love that paid the price.
[BRIDGE]
Passover door,
blood on the frame.
Temple altar,
holy flame.
Scapegoat gone,
guilt carried far.
Servant wounded,
morning star.
Cross on the hill,
mercy poured.
Empty tomb,
risen Lord.
[VERSE 4]
At the Cross, the covering came,
Jesus bore our sin and shame.
Justice did not vanish away,
Jesus paid what we could not pay.
The debt was real, the mercy real too,
love stepped in and carried us through.
The Lamb was slain, the veil was torn,
children of grace were newly born.
Atonement means we can come near,
not trapped in shame, not ruled by fear.
Forgiven, cleansed, no longer stained,
washed in mercy, called by Name.
And then He rose, the Lamb alive,
death could not keep Him inside.
So when we sing the Lamb was slain,
we sing the King who rose again.
Gen Alpha, let the water flow,
let the blood-bought mercy show.
No need to hide, no need to run,
atonement is finished in God’s own Son.
[FINAL HOOK]
Cover me, wash me clean,
Lamb of God, step into my scene.
Mercy flows like a river wide,
Jesus took what I could not hide.
Cover me, make me new,
blood of the Lamb makes the promise true.
Sin carried off, guilt washed away,
Jesus opened the holy way.
Cover me, wash me clean,
Jesus Christ has rescued me.
Lamb once slain, risen King,
now forgiven children sing.
[OUTRO]
Without covering,
we keep our sin.
With Jesus,
sin is carried.
With Jesus,
guilt is covered.
With Jesus,
the way is opened.
The Lamb of God
takes away
the sin of the world.
