OPEN OUR EYES

OPEN OUR EYES
ARTIST:
THE NAZARENE
STYLE:
Prophetic prayer rap, Gospel choir, sapphire-gold organ, redeemed digital warfare, declaration against modern idolatry
[INTRO]
Lord, open our eyes.
Let us see what we made.
Let us stop bowing
to things that fade.
[VERSE 1]
Open our eyes to the wood and stone,
open our eyes to the crafted throne.
Open our eyes to the polished lie,
earth-made gods in a digital sky.
Open our eyes to the phone in hand,
sand turned glass by human plan.
Open our eyes to the chip inside,
rock refined with a royal pride.
Open our eyes to the plastic shell,
oil-dark memory dressed to sell.
Open our eyes to the copper vein,
creation bent into signal chain.
Open our eyes to the ancient trick,
make it shine and the hearts will stick.
Give it colour, give it sound,
soon the soul starts bowing down.
But Lord, we repent of the stolen gaze,
we repent of our screen-lit praise.
We repent of the fear we fed,
we repent of the lies we read.
[HOOK]
Open our eyes, Lord Jesus,
break the idol’s spell.
Open our eyes, Lord Jesus,
save us from the screen-made cell.
Wood can’t save us.
Stone can’t hear.
Screens can’t heal us.
Christ draw near.
[VERSE 2]
Isaiah warned us, Jeremiah cried,
Habakkuk mocked what the craftsmen supplied.
Psalms declared what the idols are:
mouths with no breath, eyes with no star.
They cannot counsel, cannot forgive,
cannot die and cannot live.
Cannot cleanse and cannot speak,
cannot raise the poor and weak.
So why do we ask the feed for peace?
Why do we beg the scroll for release?
Why do we let the signal form
our fear, our hunger, our inner storm?
Lord, put tech back under command,
as a tool in a prayerful hand.
Let the laptop build what is true,
let the phone carry light from You.
Let the child not bow to the screen,
let the home be peaceful and clean.
Let the eye gate love what is bright,
let the ear gate receive Your light.
[DECLARATION]
I declare: the Lord made the earth.
The Lord made the stone.
The Lord made the tree.
The Lord made the mind.
The Lord made the laws of matter.
I declare: no created thing owns my worship.
No screen owns my time.
No algorithm owns my desire.
No idol owns my children.
No technology owns my soul.
I declare: Jesus Christ is Lord over matter, waves, code, circuits, silicon, oil, glass, metal, wood and stone.
[VERSE 3]
John the Baptist said from stones
God can raise up children to praise His throne.
Jesus said if disciples cease,
stones cry out with creation’s peace.
So stones can serve, but stones can’t reign,
stones can witness, but not remove stain.
Only the blood of the Lamb can clean,
only Christ can make us seen.
The cross was wood, the tomb was stone,
but neither could keep the King as its own.
Wood held His body, stone held His grave,
then both had to testify: Jesus saves.
So every idol, return to dust.
Every false throne, lose our trust.
Every device, bow and serve.
Every heart, regain holy nerve.
[FINAL HOOK]
Open our eyes, Lord Jesus,
break the idol’s spell.
Open our eyes, Lord Jesus,
save us from the screen-made cell.
Wood can’t save us.
Stone can’t hear.
Screens can’t heal us.
Christ draw near.
[OUTRO PRAYER]
Lord Jesus, open our eyes.
Teach us to use tools without worshipping them.
Teach us to see through the shine.
Teach us to love You above all created things.
Let wood serve You.
Let stone witness to You.
Let technology bow beneath You.
You alone are Lord.
You alone are Saviour.
You alone are worthy.
Amen.
