FIRE IN MY BONES

TITLE: FIRE IN MY BONES
ARTIST: THE NAZARENE
STYLE: Prophets in the Gate series, children’s prophetic wisdom rap, Jeremiah origin story, temple critique, false peace, new covenant hope
[INTRO]
Jeremiah did not choose an easy mission.
He was young.
He was scared.
He said, “I do not know how to speak.”
But God touched his mouth.
And the Word became
fire in his bones.
[VERSE 1]
Jeremiah was young when the calling came,
before he was born, God knew his name.
“Prophet to nations,” the Lord declared,
but Jeremiah trembled, honest and scared.
“I am only a youth, I cannot speak,”
but God gives strength to the small and weak.
“Do not be afraid of their angry face,
I am with you there in the dangerous place.”
Then God touched his mouth with holy command,
put His Word in Jeremiah’s hand.
To uproot, tear down, build and plant,
truth in a time when people said “can’t.”
Gen Alpha, listen, fear is not shame,
God can call you while your voice feels lame.
You don’t need swagger to carry light,
you need God’s presence in the night.
The world says, “Speak if you’re confident.”
God says, “Speak when My Word is sent.”
Jeremiah’s courage was not loud pride,
it was trembling faith with fire inside.
[HOOK]
Fire in my bones, I cannot hide,
truth from the Lord burning inside.
Peace, peace, when there is no peace,
God calls hearts to be released.
Tears in the streets, hope in the pain,
God can plant after the rain.
Write Your Word where sin has been,
make our hearts new again.
[VERSE 2]
Jeremiah stood by the temple gate,
where people trusted religious weight.
“The temple of the Lord,” they proudly cried,
but justice and mercy were pushed aside.
They sang their songs and brought their prayer,
but poor and orphan found no care.
God said worship becomes a lie,
when neighbour’s tears are passing by.
False prophets said, “Everything’s fine,”
while the city cracked beneath the sign.
They healed the wound of the people light,
like painting bright clouds over midnight.
“Peace, peace,” but peace was thin,
because they would not turn from sin.
Jeremiah wept because love sees clear,
judgement is not a joke to cheer.
Today we hear false peace online,
“Everything’s perfect, just look and shine.”
But filters can hide a broken soul,
and trends can’t make wounded children whole.
[CHOIR COUNTER]
Do not fake peace.
Do not hide pain.
God tells truth
to heal again.
[HOOK]
Fire in my bones, I cannot hide,
truth from the Lord burning inside.
Peace, peace, when there is no peace,
God calls hearts to be released.
Tears in the streets, hope in the pain,
God can plant after the rain.
Write Your Word where sin has been,
make our hearts new again.
[VERSE 3]
Jeremiah carried tears like rain,
felt the city’s wound and pain.
He watched leaders twist what’s right,
watched idols steal the people’s sight.
Kings did not love his warning cry,
priests did not want truth nearby.
Some threw him down where the mud was deep,
but God still guarded His prophet’s keep.
This is not a superhero show,
where prophets always glow and go.
Sometimes truth-tellers cry at night,
still God keeps their lamp alight.
Gen Alpha, learn this tender art:
strong people can have weeping hearts.
Courage is not acting stone,
Jesus Himself wept and groaned.
Jeremiah teaches holy grief,
not doom for drama, not unbelief.
He cried because the people mattered,
because sin leaves families shattered.
[BRIDGE]
False peace says, “Smile.”
God says, “Heal.”
False worship says, “Show.”
God says, “Real.”
False voices say, “Trend.”
God says, “Truth.”
False power says, “Bow.”
God says, “Youth.”
Do justice.
Love mercy.
Turn again.
Let God write
where stone has been.
[VERSE 4]
But Jeremiah was not just sorrow,
he saw grace beyond tomorrow.
A new covenant, not old pretending,
God’s own mercy, never-ending.
“I will write My law within,
on the heart, beneath the skin.
I will be their God,” He said,
“sins forgiven, old shame dead.”
That promise points to Jesus Christ,
the Lamb who paid the covenant price.
At the table, cup and bread,
new covenant in His blood He said.
The Cross looked like the city lost,
but mercy bloomed at holy cost.
The tomb broke open, hope began,
God wrote grace in the heart of man.
So children, don’t settle for shallow peace,
let Jesus make the deep wounds cease.
He is the Word, the faithful Friend,
who tears down sin and builds again.
[FINAL HOOK]
Fire in my bones, I cannot hide,
truth from the Lord burning inside.
Peace, peace, when there is no peace,
God calls hearts to be released.
Tears in the streets, hope in the pain,
God can plant after the rain.
Write Your Word where sin has been,
make our hearts new again.
[OUTRO]
Jeremiah was young.
Jeremiah was afraid.
Jeremiah wept.
But God gave him His Word.
He warned the proud.
He challenged empty worship.
He cried over the city.
He promised the new covenant.
Fire in his bones.
Truth in his mouth.
Tears in his eyes.
Hope in his heart.
Jesus is the new covenant.
