FIRE ON CARMEL

TITLE: FIRE ON CARMEL
ARTIST: THE NAZARENE
STYLE: Kids wisdom Gospel rap, bright prophetic storytelling, Elijah vs Baal, clear modern application, bouncy drums, children’s choir, holy fire
[INTRO]
This is the story of Elijah,
Ahab, Jezebel,
and the prophets of Baal.
A kingdom full of noise.
A prophet standing alone.
A people stuck between two ways.
Then fire fell.
[VERSE 1]
Ahab wore the crown, but his heart leaned wrong,
Jezebel’s idols made the palace strong.
Baal got praise where the Lord should reign,
and the land grew thirsty under judgement rain.
Three years dry, no river-song,
fields cracked open, days felt long.
The people watched the sky turn pale,
because fake gods always fail.
Elijah came with a word like flame,
not chasing comfort, not chasing fame.
He told the king what the Lord had said,
truth on his tongue while the nation bled.
Then Mount Carmel rose in the heat,
dust on robes and stones under feet.
Elijah stood where the crowds could see:
“How long will you limp between two beliefs?”
If the Lord is God, then follow Him.
If Baal is god, then follow him.
No more half-heart, no shadow game,
choose this day whose is the Name.
[HOOK]
Fire on Carmel, truth in the air,
God is not silent, God is aware.
Prophets may shout, idols may fall,
but the Lord is God over all.
Fire on Carmel, hearts return,
false gods crumble, altars burn.
Children, listen, hear the call:
the Lord is God over all.
[VERSE 2]
The prophets of Baal started early that day,
dancing round stones in a desperate way.
“Answer us, Baal!” they shouted loud,
but silence sat on the watching crowd.
They cried and cried till the sun climbed high,
no voice came down, no spark from the sky.
Noise got bigger, but power was none,
idols can’t hear when the chanting is done.
Elijah watched with a holy grief,
not proud, but sharp with a prophet’s belief.
Then he repaired the altar of the Lord,
stone by stone where faith was restored.
Twelve stones set for the tribes by name,
a broken people called back to flame.
Water poured where the sacrifice lay,
again, again, till it soaked the clay.
Not tricks, not theatre, not hidden spark,
just faith standing in the national dark.
Then Elijah prayed, simple and clear:
“Lord, let them know that You are near.”
[CHOIR COUNTER]
Turn our hearts back.
Turn our hearts back.
Lord, let them know
You are God.
[HOOK]
Fire on Carmel, truth in the air,
God is not silent, God is aware.
Prophets may shout, idols may fall,
but the Lord is God over all.
Fire on Carmel, hearts return,
false gods crumble, altars burn.
Children, listen, hear the call:
the Lord is God over all.
[VERSE 3]
Then fire fell like a holy reply,
burned the offering, stones and sky.
Licked up water, dust and ground,
and the people fell with a trembling sound.
“The Lord, He is God!” rose from the crowd,
not Baal, not noise, not palace proud.
The Lord, He is God! Let the idols fall,
the living God had answered all.
But hear this well, children, hear it right,
Elijah was brave, but still felt night.
After the fire and after the rain,
he ran from threats and carried pain.
A prophet can tremble, a strong heart can tire,
even after seeing the heavenly fire.
God met him gentle, not only in storm,
a whisper of mercy keeping him warm.
So don’t think courage means never afraid,
faith can shake and still be saved.
The God of Carmel, the God of care,
meets tired servants in silent prayer.
[BRIDGE]
Now today our idols wear different clothes,
not always statues with golden toes.
Fame can shout like Baal in the street,
money can demand the heart’s whole beat.
Screens can glow like a tiny shrine,
self can sit on the throne inside.
Trends can teach us to bow and bend,
“Be your own god, promote, pretend.”
But noise is not truth.
Crowds are not light.
Popularity is not always right.
So Lord, forgive us when we drift,
when we praise the creature and chase the gift.
Repair the altar inside our chest,
turn our hearts back to holy rest.
[CALL AND RESPONSE]
Leader: Who answered by fire?
Children: The Lord answered by fire!
Leader: Who is the true God?
Children: The Lord is the true God!
Leader: What must idols do?
Children: Idols must fall!
Leader: What do we ask?
Children: Turn our hearts back!
Leader: Who is our King?
All: Jesus is our King!
[VERSE 4]
Elijah points beyond himself,
past mountain smoke and royal wealth.
Another Prophet would come one day,
the Word made flesh, the living Way.
Jesus stood where all hearts are shown,
called us back to God alone.
He faced the powers, He bore the blame,
He died and rose in the Father’s Name.
No more limping between two ways,
Christ is worthy of all our praise.
Not half a heart, not Sunday show,
Lord, take every room we know.
Take our homes, take our schools,
take our phones, take our rules.
Take our songs, take our plans,
place our future in Your hands.
Let children rise with humble fire,
not proud noise, but pure desire.
Let justice roll and idols fall,
Jesus is Lord over all.
[FINAL HOOK]
Fire on Carmel, truth in the air,
God is not silent, God is aware.
Prophets may shout, idols may fall,
but the Lord is God over all.
Fire on Carmel, hearts return,
false gods crumble, altars burn.
Children, listen, hear the call:
the Lord is God over all.
The Lord is God.
The Lord is God.
Jesus is King
over all.
[OUTRO]
Ahab had a crown.
Jezebel had power.
Baal had prophets.
But the Lord had fire.
The people were divided.
God called them back.
And He still calls us now:
Return to the Lord.
Let the idols fall.
Jesus is Lord over all.
