Songs
IN THE BEGINNING

TITLE: IN THE BEGINNING
THE NAZARENE
INTRO
In the beginning, before clocks learned to count,
Before mountains had shoulders, before rivers poured out,
Before dust had a name, before breath had a song,
God spoke into nothing and the nothing moved on.
VERSE 1
In the beginning, no temple, no throne room of stone,
No kings with their crowns, no cities overgrown,
Just the deep with no lantern, the waters unseen,
And the Spirit of God moved over the dream.
Then the Voice cut the silence, not loud, but supreme,
“Let there be light,” and the dark split clean.
Day woke up with a golden face,
Night bowed low and took her place.
Second day, skies stretched wide like praise,
Blue vault opened over unborn days.
Third day, seas pulled back from the land,
Dry ground rose by the Lord’s command.
Grass came singing from the soil like choirs,
Trees lifted arms with their fruit like fires,
Seeds held futures in tiny rooms,
Gardens rehearsed resurrection blooms.
HOOK
GENESIS, GENESIS, GOD IS THE SOURCE,
SPOKE INTO DARKNESS WITH SOVEREIGN FORCE.
LIGHT FROM HIS MOUTH, LIFE FROM HIS BREATH,
LOVE IN THE DUST, AND A PROMISE THROUGH DEATH.
GENESIS, GENESIS, START OF THE STORY,
HEAVENS DECLARE AND CREATION SINGS GLORY.
FROM EDEN TO CALVARY, SCARLET THREAD RUNS,
ALL THINGS WERE MADE THROUGH THE WORD, THROUGH THE SON.
VERSE 2
Fourth day, lights got hung in the height,
Sun for the day and the moon for the night,
Stars like sparks from a holy forge,
Galaxies dancing in ordered chords.
Fifth day, seas went electric with life,
Whales in the deep, wings slicing the light,
Birds wrote poems across the sky,
Fish flashed silver where the waters sighed.
Sixth day, beasts came forth from the ground,
Lion and lamb with the hoofbeat sound,
Cattle and creatures, wild and tame,
Each one called by the Maker’s aim.
Then God took dust from the earth below,
Formed man gentle, made image glow.
Not accident, not cosmic debris,
A living icon with dignity.
Breathed into nostrils, the dust stood tall,
Adam woke hearing the Father call.
Placed in a garden, not prison or grind,
Work with worship and peace in the mind.
Then from his side came bone of bone,
Eve stood shining, not servant, not clone.
Two made one in the garden light,
Love before shame, before blame, before night.
HOOK
GENESIS, GENESIS, GOD IS THE SOURCE,
SPOKE INTO DARKNESS WITH SOVEREIGN FORCE.
LIGHT FROM HIS MOUTH, LIFE FROM HIS BREATH,
LOVE IN THE DUST, AND A PROMISE THROUGH DEATH.
GENESIS, GENESIS, START OF THE STORY,
HEAVENS DECLARE AND CREATION SINGS GLORY.
FROM EDEN TO CALVARY, SCARLET THREAD RUNS,
ALL THINGS WERE MADE THROUGH THE WORD, THROUGH THE SON.
VERSE 3
But the serpent came slick with a crooked question,
Turning trust into self-made direction.
“Did God really say?” was the poison seed,
A whisper dressed up like wisdom and need.
Fruit in the hand, pride in the chest,
Eyes opened wide but the soul lost rest.
They reached for the throne, but the glory withdrew,
Leaves became armour where innocence grew.
Adam hid when the Lord came near,
Not because God changed, but the heart learned fear.
Eve stood wounded, creation groaned,
Sin moved in like smoke through the home.
But God did not leave them beneath that tree,
He came with judgment and mercy.
The serpent heard what heaven decreed,
A Child would come from the woman’s seed.
Heel would be bruised, but the head would break,
A wound would heal what the fruit would take.
First gospel spark in the garden flame,
Hope had a pulse before Abraham’s name.
BRIDGE
That promise walked through flood and fire,
Through barren wombs and altar desire,
Through Jacob’s limp and Joseph’s chains,
Through Egypt’s tears and wilderness pains.
It moved through prophets with burning tongues,
Through psalms that ache and temple songs,
Till Mary heard what Eden knew,
The Seed was coming, faithful and true.
CHOIR
The Word became flesh, the Light came down,
The Son wore thorns for Adam’s crown.
The garden failed, but the garden tomb
Opened wide with resurrection bloom.
VERSE 4
Cain brought worship with blood on his mood,
Abel brought faith and was approved.
Jealousy crouched like a beast at the door,
Sin wanted rule, wanted more and more.
Blood cried out from the field that day,
Brother against brother, the human way.
But even then, mercy marked the ground,
God saw the lost though judgment was found.
Generations rose and the violence spread,
Cities got built while hearts went dead.
But Enoch walked where the mockers laughed,
Taken by God on the narrow path.
Noah found grace in a world gone wild,
Built through the sneers with obedient style.
Rain came heavy, the deep broke free,
But the ark rode mercy on judgment’s sea.
Rainbow burned after thunder had ceased,
Covenant colours over cleansed release.
Not just weather, not pretty sky,
A sign that God remembers why.
HOOK
GENESIS, GENESIS, GOD IS THE SOURCE,
SPOKE INTO DARKNESS WITH SOVEREIGN FORCE.
LIGHT FROM HIS MOUTH, LIFE FROM HIS BREATH,
LOVE IN THE DUST, AND A PROMISE THROUGH DEATH.
GENESIS, GENESIS, START OF THE STORY,
HEAVENS DECLARE AND CREATION SINGS GLORY.
FROM EDEN TO CALVARY, SCARLET THREAD RUNS,
ALL THINGS WERE MADE THROUGH THE WORD, THROUGH THE SON.
VERSE 5
Then Babel rose with bricks and pride,
“Let us make a name,” they cried.
One tower reaching for heaven’s seat,
Human glory with clay on its feet.
God came down, and the languages scattered,
Empire dreams broke, arrogance shattered.
But Pentecost later would reverse the sound,
Tongues of fire where grace came down.
Then Abram heard the call to leave,
Stars became sermons for him to believe.
“Count them,” God said, “if count them you can,”
Faith took root in a wandering man.
Isaac was laughter in Sarah’s arms,
Promise alive beyond nature’s charms.
Then Moriah trembled beneath the knife,
A father, a son, and surrender of life.
But God provided the ram in the place,
Substitute mercy, covenant grace.
On that mountain the shadow was cast,
Another Son would come at last.
VERSE 6
Jacob wrestled till night turned thin,
Limped with blessing, renamed within.
Israel born from a wounded stride,
Strength made strange where weakness cried.
Joseph dreamed and his brothers sold,
Coat dipped deep in the lie they told.
Pit to prison, prison to throne,
God writing mercy through pain unknown.
What they meant for evil, God turned good,
Bread in famine where forgiveness stood.
Genesis ends with a coffin in view,
But even the bones say, “God will come through.”
OUTRO
So Genesis is not just ancient dust,
It is the root of creation and trust.
Light, garden, promise, blood, ark, seed,
God answering every human need.
From first breath given to final breath paid,
From Eden lost to the stone rolled away,
The story begins where the Lord says “Be,”
And ends with the Lamb making all things free.
FINAL CHOIR
GENESIS, GENESIS, OPENING FIRE,
HEAVEN’S FIRST SONG AND EARTH’S FIRST DESIRE.
THE WORD WHO SPOKE WHEN THE DARKNESS WAS NONE,
IS JESUS THE CHRIST, GOD’S ONLY SON.
