PROPHETS IN THE GATE

TITLE: PROPHETS IN THE GATE
ARTIST: THE NAZARENE
STYLE: Kids wisdom Gospel rap, bright but serious, bouncy drums, children’s choir, prophetic storytelling, temple-and-kingdom theme
[INTRO]
Prophets were not fortune-tellers in costumes.
They were messengers of the living God.
They stood before kings.
They cried outside temples.
They warned proud nations.
They comforted broken people.
They said:
Return to the Lord.
[VERSE 1]
Prophets in the gate with a word like fire,
not for fame, not for hire.
They didn’t speak to look important,
they spoke because God had called them forward.
Samuel heard God in the quiet night,
“Speak, Lord,” he said, “I’m listening right.”
He warned old Eli, crowned kings too,
but still told Saul, “God sees through you.”
Nathan walked in where David sat,
king with a crown and a hidden act.
Told him a story, sharp and true:
“You are the man,” and the mask fell through.
Elijah stood when the palace lied,
Ahab had power, but truth had cried.
Prophets of Baal made noise all day,
but fire from God showed the living way.
Not every king liked what prophets said,
not every priest wanted truth instead.
When the temple got proud and the poor got crushed,
God sent voices through human dust.
[HOOK]
Prophets in the gate, speaking God’s Word,
telling proud hearts what they hadn’t heard.
Kings had crowns, temples had gold,
but God loves justice more than show.
Prophets in the street, prophets in the rain,
calling God’s people back again.
Children, listen, humble and true,
God still cares what our hearts do.
[VERSE 2]
Isaiah saw the Lord on the throne,
holy, holy, not like stone.
Smoke filled the temple, angels cried,
and Isaiah said, “Unclean am I.”
Then God touched lips with a coal of flame,
sent him out in the holy Name.
He spoke of judgement, hope and light,
a Child to be born, a kingdom bright.
Jeremiah wept while the city laughed,
warned them the road had broken in half.
Kings said, “Peace,” when peace was thin,
priests said, “Fine,” while they covered sin.
He stood by the temple and told them clear,
“Don’t trust the building while hearts disappear.”
A holy house with an unholy heart
is religion falling apart.
Amos came from the fields and trees,
heard God’s roar against rich ease.
“You sing loud songs, but ignore the poor,
let justice roll like waters more.”
[CHOIR COUNTER]
Justice like water.
Truth like rain.
Mercy like sunlight.
Call us back again.
[HOOK]
Prophets in the gate, speaking God’s Word,
telling proud hearts what they hadn’t heard.
Kings had crowns, temples had gold,
but God loves justice more than show.
Prophets in the street, prophets in the rain,
calling God’s people back again.
Children, listen, humble and true,
God still cares what our hearts do.
[VERSE 3]
Micah said, “What does the Lord require?”
Not proud smoke from a self-made fire.
Do justice, love mercy, walk humbly too,
that word still speaks to me and you.
Hosea showed love when hearts ran wild,
God still called His wandering child.
Jonah ran from the mercy plan,
but God still cared for a foreign land.
Ezekiel saw dry bones rise,
hope came marching before his eyes.
Daniel prayed when the law said stop,
lions lay quiet when God stood top.
Prophets met kings with fearless grace,
called out idols to their face.
They challenged courts, markets, shrines,
false worship dressed in holy signs.
They were not perfect, not marble saints,
some were tired with honest complaints.
But God gave fire to fragile clay,
so truth could walk in a human way.
[BRIDGE]
Today the idols wear new clothes,
screens and fame and “everybody knows.”
Today the kings may trend online,
and temples can become a brand design.
When people mock the weak and poor,
when truth gets bent behind the door,
when worship sounds big but love grows small,
the prophets still whisper: hear God’s call.
Not every loud voice speaks for Heaven.
Not every platform tells the truth.
Measure the message by God’s Word,
by justice, mercy, humble fruit.
[CALL AND RESPONSE]
Leader: Who did prophets speak for?
Children: The living God!
Leader: Who did they challenge?
Children: Kings and idols!
Leader: What did they defend?
Children: Justice and mercy!
Leader: What did they call us to?
Children: Return to the Lord!
Leader: Who is the final Word?
All: Jesus is the Word!
[VERSE 4]
Then came Jesus, Prophet and King,
the Word Himself whom the prophets sing.
He cleansed the temple, healed the poor,
opened mercy’s living door.
He warned the proud, He blessed the meek,
He touched the ones nobody would seek.
He told the truth, He bore the pain,
died and rose and will come again.
So kids, don’t chase the tallest chair,
don’t laugh at people in despair.
Don’t call the gentle ones weak or small,
Jesus sees and loves them all.
Be brave with truth, be soft with tears,
pray for the world through troubled years.
Stand for the lonely, feed the poor,
keep your heart near Heaven’s door.
Prophets remind us every age:
God is not impressed by stage.
He wants clean hands, a humble flame,
and hearts made new in Jesus’ Name.
[FINAL HOOK]
Prophets in the gate, speaking God’s Word,
telling proud hearts what they hadn’t heard.
Kings had crowns, temples had gold,
but God loves justice more than show.
Prophets in the street, prophets in the rain,
calling God’s people back again.
Children, listen, humble and true,
God still cares what our hearts do.
[OUTRO]
The prophets said:
Return to the Lord.
Do justice.
Love mercy.
Walk humbly.
Comfort the broken.
Warn the proud.
Trust the Word.
And Jesus is the Word.
