ZEPHANIAH
THE DAY SWEEPS EVERYTHING

ZEPHANIAH
THE DAY SWEEPS EVERYTHING
[Verse]
Late in Josiah’s reign Zeph stood close to the crown
old shrines smoked on the roofs star priests watched through the night
Baal drew hearts from the Lord Milcom shared in their oaths
some swore vows by God’s name then bent knees before stone
some turned back from the Lord some would not seek His face
princes wore foreign clothes pride got stitched in each robe
guards leapt hard through the doors blood and fraud filled the floors
merchants weighed bread for gain poor backs bent under pain
princes roared like lions judges prowled wolves at dusk
prophets spoke reckless lies priests bent law for the proud
men said God will not act good or ill will not come
wine made hearts settle down wrath stood close to the town
Fish Gate rang with the horn war cries tore through the storm
Day came dark on the land near wrath pressed on the land
wrath made noon turn to black clouds rolled thick at the back
horns struck walls and watch posts proud gates cracked under blows
blood poured out like the dust flesh fell low like the dung
silver failed on that Day gold could not buy delay
flames swept over the land earth reeled hard at God’s hand
who can stand in that Day who can bear holy weight
seek the Lord meek of earth seek the right seek true worth
maybe you will be hid on the day wrath is raised
Gaza falls to the dust Ashkelon turns to dust
Ashdod falls at high noon Ekron gets torn out soon
Moab mocked God’s own name Ammon boasted the same
Cush fell hard to the sword Nineveh falls from height
owl cried through empty halls beasts lay down by dead walls
pride made streets into dust none could guard what they trust
now roofs glow blue at night hands bow down to the light
feeds tell hearts what to crave clicks make want into chains
some name Christ with their mouths then trust cash in accounts
some praise God in the church then bless war with His Word
leaders dress war as peace flags make blood look like grace
firms hide kids in the mine screens make each wound look fine
merchants mark bread for gain rent makes homes tools of pain
food gets binned by the ton cold kids wake before sun
men say God will not move good or ill will not come
pain becomes clips by noon ads pour gold through the wound
churches guard polished names wounded wait out in shame
wolves wear robes made of trust truth gets crushed under dust
we see pain then scroll on Cain still asks is that mine
God still hears every cry none pass out of His eye
one day your last breath falls feeds still sell through the night
friends post hearts by your name you face God in the light
death may knock before dawn or Christ may split the sky
either path meets the King none slips past His own eye
one hundred years from now most here will sleep in dust
Day sits close to each chest time draws each soul to death
first seal breaks white rides out conquest wears borrowed peace
red horse strips peace from earth black scales ration the bread
pale horse walks with the grave Hades follows behind
seas give back all their dead books lie wide at the throne
Babylon burns in one night traders weep over gold
sky rolls back like a scroll Faithful rides through the light
false white horse meets the Word beasts fall down from their thrones
kings cry out to the rocks none can hide from His face
names not found in the Book meet the second death there
saints rise out of the dust death gives back what it stole
Babylon sinks in flame Zion comes down from God
river runs from the throne trees heal nations made whole
Jesus bore sin on wood blood bought rebels for God
stone sealed breath in the dark third dawn raised flesh to light
Christ walked out from the grave Christ holds Death and Hades
seek the Lord and find life all who trust Him are saved
turn from idols and live trust in Christ’s blood alone
God calms hearts with His love God sings love over saints
outcasts come from far lands shame gets turned into praise
pure lips call on one Name nations serve side by side
no lie lives in the flock none make saints shake with fear
no child gets sold for gold Lamb calls each one by name
no war burns homes to ash earth sings under the King
Zeph’s last word ends in Christ Day breaks bright with the Lamb
